Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Agricultural Pollution.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

25 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the heart of the problem of agricultural pollution is the intensive nature of Irish farming; and if he will offer financial incentives to those wishing to farm organically. [88263/95]

Under my Department's rural environment protection scheme special financial incentives are available to those wishing to farm organically.

A sub-measure of the Operational Programme for Agricultural Rural Development and Forestry for marketing, promotion and distribution of organic products will be drawn up shortly and will provide approximately £1 million funding over the next five years.
