Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Quota Review Groups.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

55 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has to restrict membership of the review groups for suckler cow and ewe quota schemes only to those farm organisations who participated in the Programme for Competitiveness and Work; his reasons for excluding other organisations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8773/95]

The quota review groups were established pursuant to a commitment in the Programme for Competiveness and Work and membership of the groups consists of representatives of organisations which are party to the programme. I am satisfied that the interests of the producers concerned are adequately represented in the groups. It should also be noted that the groups are consultative in nature and that it is important to have a proper balance between the different interests.
