Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Public Water Scheme Grants.

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

130 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give a listing by county in tabular form of the estimated cost of applications for water grants for public water schemes currently awaiting sanction by his Department; the terms and funds of the schemes available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8579/95]

Some 500 public water and sewerage schemes are at various stages of planning. This figure does not include proposals under the small schemes programme or extensions and modifications to existing schemes.

Funding for these proposals is available from a number of sources including the EU Cohesion Fund, the European Regional Development Fund, INTERREG and the Exchequer. It would not necessarily be known what source of funding is available for each scheme as this can depend on the completion of the design of the scheme and the approval of the European Commission in individual cases. In the circumstances it would not be practicable, having regard to the inordinate commitment of staff time and resources that would be involved, to compile the detailed information sought in the question.
