Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Butter Vouchers.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

123 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if the fact that recipients of butter vouchers who have a medical complaint resulting in an inability to digest butter are given no other option has been brought to his attention; the plans, if any, he has to review this matter with a view to accommodating such recipients; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9719/95]

The scheme under which butter vouchers are made available to certain categories of social welfare recipients, is wholly funded by the European Union and constitutes part of the market support arrangements in the milk sector. I am not aware that the European Commission which determines the parameters of the scheme, including eligibility of dairy products, has any plans to broaden the scheme along the lines suggested by the Deputy.
