Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Food Hygiene Regulations.

Ben Briscoe

Ceist:

124 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason directions from the Minister for Agriculture made in 1952 under Article 7 of the Food Hygiene Regulations are not being implemented by the health boards; the duration for which these directions have not been applied in the various health boards; the action, if any, that has been taken to stop the activity in question and by whom it was taken; the action, if any, he proposes to restore overall veterinary supervision and control of the home meat supply pursuant to these directions; and when these proposals will be implemented in view of the warning which his Department gave to the Eastern Health Board in November 1993, to comply with the directions or have the matter placed in the hands of the Chief State Solicitor. [9746/95]

The arrangements for the inspection of meat and meat products provided for under Article 7 of the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950-1989 are being implemented by the health boards in co-operation with the local authorities where appropriate. However, there is a difficulty in the area to which the Deputy refers and ongoing efforts are being made to resolve this.
