Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Farm Electrification Grant Scheme.

Séamus Hughes

Ceist:

138 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will give details of the grant aid available to assist a person in purchasing a generator for his home on an island which has no public electricity supply. [9745/95]

The only grant scheme in my Department that provides for grant-aid towards the cost of providing electricity supply is the farm electrification grants scheme.

The scheme is designed to subsidise the installation of electricity supply to farms which previously had no supply or where supply is inadequate, in order to facilitate the development and modernisation of farms in disadvantaged areas of the country.

The scheme provides for grant-aid of 80 per cent (State 20 per cent, ESB 60 per cent and 20 per cent to the applicant) up to a maximum of £1,600 for new and increased supply, and £3200 for 3 phase supply. Any balance over total eligible costs is borne by the applicant under ESB's standard terms.
Application forms, which outline the general rules and conditions of the scheme, are available from local ESB offices.
