Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Publications.

Charlie McCreevy

Ceist:

29 Mr. McCreevy asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the cost in 1995 of all departmental publications initiated since 16 December 1994. [9411/95]

The cost to date of publications initiated by the Department of Foreign Affairs since December 1994 amounts to £50,284. This includes the publication of 140,000 copies of the Framework Document at a cost of £35,145. Other publications include the Diplomatic List and a number of information fact sheets on various aspects of Ireland for distribution by our embassies abroad.

In addition to the costs indicated above, publications which were initiated before December 1994 but which will be paid from the 1995 budget include the 45th report of developments in the European Union published in March 1995. While the final cost remains to be established, it is estimated to be in order of £1,200. A new edition of Facts about Ireland was launched on 18 May 1995 and a total of 20,000 copies were printed. The costs of the publication in 1994 and to date in 1995 are £85,588.

The only publication initiated since 16 December 1994 by the Office of the Tánaiste was the Interim Report of the Task Force on Long-term Unemployment which was published on 7 March 1995. Two thousand copies of the report were printed at a cost of £7,980. A portion of this cost is recoverable from moneys received from sales to the public through Government Publication Sales Office. However this figure will not be known until after the end of 1995. It is also planned to publish the final report of the task force before the end of 1995. However, it is not possible at this stage to provide an estimate of the likely cost of this report.
