Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Micheál Martin

Ceist:

92 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she has appointed the 100 career guidance teachers announced in the budget to schools throughout the country; the schools to which these career guidance teachers have been allocated; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9855/95]

At present all post-primary schools with enrolments of 500 or more pupils qualify for the allocation of a full post in respect of guidance. Schools in the 350-499 enrolment category qualify for the allocation of 0.5 of a post. The allocation to individual schools in a particular year is determined by reference to the enrolments at the end of September of the preceding school year. This arrangement will continue.

My Department has allocated an additional 100 wholetime teacher equivalents in respect of guidance to post-primary schools in the Free Education Scheme with effect from the beginning of the 1995/96 school year. Broadly speaking the allocation to individual schools was made on the following basis:

Schools with enrolments of 1,000 pupils or more were allocated one post.

Schools with enrolments of 800-999 pupils were allocated 0.5 of a post.

Schools with enrolments of 250-349 pupils were allocated 0.5 of a post.

Schools with enrolments of 200-249 pupils were allocated 0.4 of a post.

Schools with enrolments of 150-199 pupils were allocated 0.3 of a post.

Schools with enrolments of 100-149 pupils were allocated 0.2 of a post.

Schools with enrolments of less than 100 pupils were allocated 0.1 of a post.
