Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ennis (Clare) School Appointment.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

93 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education if she will approve the appointment of a school secretary to a school (details supplied) in Ennis, County Clare. [9908/95]

The school in question shares a secretary with another school in Ennis under the scheme for the provision of clerical services in primary and secondary schools introduced in 1978.

My Department meets the full cost of salary of the Grade 3 clerk-typist concerned.

A scheme of additional capitation grants for the provision of caretaking and clerical services in primary and secondary schools was introduced in September 1992. It is being extended on a phased basis. To date priority has been given to schools which did not have caretaking and-or clerical services already.

I announced on 8 February last that this year's increase in funding for the scheme of additional capitation grants will enable improvements to be made in the position of large schools that currently have shared services only.

I intend to have revised arrangements in place from 1 September next.

The position of the school in question will be considered in that context.
