Vol. 453 No. 8

Written Answers. - Clare County Council.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

62 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate extra finances to Clare County Council in 1995 to ensure that the permanent workforce is not put on short time during the year. [9992/95]

I take it that the question relates primarily to the rate support grant and the grants for non-national roads. The rate support grant allocations notified to each county council for 1995 are set out in the reply to Question No. 112 on 4 April 1995. The allocation to Clare County Council represents an increase of 2.5 per cent on the 1994 baseline allocation. As regards grants for non-national roads, I refer to the reply to Question No. 19 on 27 April 1995.

It is a matter for each local authority to determine, having regard to the resources available to it, the level of expenditure on any particular service, and how expenditure should be allocated as between pay and non-pay items.
