In February 1994 my Department proposed to the European Commission that the Limerick-Tralee-Killarney-Cork national primary route be included in the Trans-European Networks — TENS — then in preparation. However this proposal was not accepted by the European Commission for inclusion in its draft TENS guidelines presented in April 1994. The addition of the route to the Commission's proposals has been proposed by the European Parliament in an opinion of 18 May 1995. My Department has supported this amendment and the Irish representatives will continue to support it when the matter comes before the Council of Ministers later this month.
