Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

88 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Health, further to the reply to Parliamentary Question 47 of 25 May 1995, if he will give details of the tests carried out at Ballycroy, County Mayo; if he will give the scientific criteria of contamination; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10077/95]

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

89 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Health the cost to his Department of dealing with Parliamentary Questions 108 of 16 May 1995, and 54 and 64 of 25 May 1995; the reason information given in reply to a Parliamentary Question of 25 May 1995, which was asked for on 16 May 1995, was not forthcoming on the first occasion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10078/95]

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

90 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Health the action, if any, taken as a result of tests carried out and recommendations made by the Western Health Board in each of the years 1991 and 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10086/95]

Limerick East): I propose to answer Questions Nos. 88, 89 and 90 together.

My Department deals with a large volume of parliamentary questions and it is not possible to isolate the cost of dealing with individual questions. The information requested in the parliamentary question on 16 May 1995 was of a general nature and was supplied. The parliamentary question on 25 May 1995 requested more specific information which was sought from the health board concerned and supplied.

I am advised by the Western Health Board that tests carried out on water samples from the Ballycroy scheme involve chemical and bacteriological testing and the scientific criterion of contamination used is the presence of coliforms in the water samples.

The results of the tests on the Ballycroy group water scheme carried out in 1991 and 1992 by the Western Health Board were forwarded to the County Council and to the trustees of the scheme. The board recommended treatment of the water to ensure a safe supply.
