Vol. 454 No. 6

Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.

Declan Bree

Ceist:

165 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason an application to participate in the summer jobs scheme submitted by a person (details supplied) in County Sligo was rejected by his Department. [11184/95]

The students summer jobs scheme was introduced in 1993 to provide income support for less well off third level students who were unable to get jobs and who were debarred from receiving Unemployment Assistance during the summer holidays.

The claim of the person concerned was rejected initially on the grounds that her weekly means, including income from a covenant, exceeded the weekly limit of £60. Following my recent decision to disregard income derived from covenants in the calculation of means, her claim was reviewed and she was approved to participate in the scheme on 8 June 1995.

A job certificate together with a book of registered sponsors issued to her on 10 June 1995.
