63 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will introduce a lamb carcase classification scheme to ensure the supply of high quality lamb to the French market; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11251/95]
During 1994 a lamb carcase classification scheme was introduced on a pilot basis by two lamb processors. The progress of the pilot scheme has been very satisfactory and I am satisfied that the operation of such a scheme on a countrywide basis is essential to improve the quality standards of Irish lamb. My Department is having discussions with all the parties involved with a view to putting an industry wide scheme in place in the very near future.
