Vol. 454 No. 6

Written Answers. - Agricultural Schemes.

Brendan Smith

Ceist:

71 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the action, if any, being taken to tackle the backlog of applications awaiting approval under the control of farm pollution scheme and the dairy hygiene scheme in County Cavan in view of his statement in Dáil Éireann on 23 May 1995. [11154/95]

The staffing situation in the Cavan office has been improved. The county will particularly benefit from my decision to grant approvals under the control of farm pollution scheme to farmers who applied prior to 31 December 1994 and had not received approval by 27 April 1995. This approach has been taken to ensure equality of treatment across all counties. Work is in progress on the processing of these applications.

Regarding CFP applications received from all counties after 31 December 1994, I plan to make an announcement in September about the processing of these applications.

I expect there will be continued improvement in the level of work approvals under the CFP and dairy hygiene schemes in the county. In this regard progress will be kept under ongoing review.
