Vol. 454 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Placement.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

71 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to find a place for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W for the school year commencing 1 September 1995; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11469/95]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy. The selection and enrolment of pupils in secondary schools is, in the first instance, the responsibility of individual schools. In cases such as this, my Department's inspectorate endeavours, by a process of consultation with school management, to have the pupil in question placed in a school in his locality. These efforts, which by their nature can take some time, are ongoing in this case and every effort is being made to find an appropriate placement. I shall advise the Deputy of any developments.
