Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Public Service Vacancies.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

124 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment the number of new and vacant posts in public service agencies under his aegis other than posts in the Civil Service approved since 1 January 1995; the number of such posts approved by him; the number approved since 1 May 1995; and the number and date of such approvals since 1 June 1995. [11861/95]

The number of new officer posts in local authorities approved since 1 January 1995 was 105, of which 80 are temporary — contract posts for major local authority capital projects and various other short term purposes. The number of posts approved since 1 May 1995 was 16. Of these, the number approved since 1 June 1995 was three on 8 June and five on 20 June, all of them temporary posts. The number of new posts approved in my Department's semi-State bodies since 1 January 1995 was four, one in April, one in May and two in June.

The filling of vacancies arising in semi-State bodies under the aegis of my Department is a matter for the bodies concerned. The filling of vacancies in officer posts in local authorities within overall authorised numbers, is a matter for the local authorities concerned. Information in relation to vacancies of both kinds is not available in my Department. The creation and filling of non-officer posts in local authorities is a matter for individual local authorities and my approval is not required.
