Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Delors Peace Package.

James Leonard

Ceist:

19 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Finance his views on the IBEC/CBI Joint Business Council submission regarding expenditure under the Delors peace package. [10486/95]

The IBEC/CBI Joint Business Council has not made any specific proposals to my Department in relation to the EU Community Initiative for Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the Border counties. The Council had, however, made a submission in relation to both administrations in 1993 on ways to increase North/South co-operation. The Council called, among other things, for an integrated programme of investment in road links between North and South, for a co-ordinated approach to investment in ports and for measures across a wide range of sectors that would improve economic integration between the two parts of the island.

The proposals put forward by the Council are being dealt with, as appropriate, under the relevant operational programmes of the 1994/1999 CSF.
