Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Independent Radio Stations.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

120 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, he has for the reorganisation of independent radio stations; and if he intends to subvent them from the licence fees. [12900/95]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Questions Nos. 2, 6, 12, 17 and 24 on 2 March, 1995 — columns 102 to 105 of the Official Report for that day. As indicated in the reply, the funding of commercial and community radio services and the role of the Independent Radio and Television Commission are issues which are raised in the Green Paper on Broadcasting which I launched on 27 April 1995.

The period I allowed for submissions on the Green Paper will end on 30 September 1995. The views which I receive on the issues raised in the Green Paper will be taken into account in framing fresh legislative proposals.
