123 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the legal effect of designating land as natural heritage areas; whether this requires the passing of legislation to give legal effect; and, if so, when this is likely to be passed. [13015/95]
Certain lands have been identified, on the basis of scientific criteria, as proposed natural heritage areas and I will be introducing legislation in due course to enable them to be statutorily designated. A draft scheme of a Bill to amend the Wildlife Act, 1976 is at an advanced stage of preparation. I hope to submit proposals to Government shortly and to publish the Bill early in 1996.
