Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Accountability of County Managers.

Mary O'Rourke

Ceist:

136 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for the Environment if county managers are accountable to any person, agency or Government Department in the exercise of their housing functions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12636/95]

As in the case of their functions generally, county managers are required to exercise their housing functions in accordance with overall policy, as determined by their elected councils. In addition, the elected members have various powers in relation to the executive role of the manager which allow for oversight and direction of the affairs of the local authority generally.
