Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Caretaker Post Upgrading.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

137 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment if he will review the application submitted by Kilkenny County Council regarding the upgrading of a caretaker post (details supplied) in County Kilkenny which was refused by his Department under the Water & Sewerage Caretakers Rationalisation Agreement; if he will give full and careful consideration to the unsocial hours and level of commitment given by the caretaker concerned to keep an inadequate water scheme in operation and a guaranteed supply to the consumers; and if he will approve the joint submission of both Kilkenny County Council and the union concerned. [12648/95]

The local authority's proposal for the regarding of a water supply caretaker was considered in the context of the Water and Sewerage Caretakers Rationalisation Agreement, 1983 which takes account, inter alia, of any unsocial hours element of the work. As the proposal did not meet the relevant criteria, it could not be sanctioned. There is no basis for a review by my Department at this stage.
