157 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding the construction of the South-Eastern Motorway; and when he will make a Motorways Order for a public hearing to take place regarding the proposed route. [12962/95]
Under section 47 of the Roads Act, 1993, the power to make a motorway scheme is vested in road authorities. The scheme is then submitted to me for approval and I am required to hold a public local inquiry into the scheme under section 49 of the Act. I understand that Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have recently appointed consultants to commence preparation of a motorway scheme for the proposed south-eastern motorway. I am asking the council and the National Roads Authority to press on with this as a matter of urgency.
