Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Request for Garda Patrol.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

257 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if she will request the Garda to patrol a flat complex (details supplied) in Dublin 8 where there has been several arson attacks on the homes of elderly tenants; and if she will ensure that every co-operation is given to the local neighbourhood watch group. [12922/95]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that they have investigated two incidents each involving an outbreak of fire at the location mentioned in the question. However, no evidence has been found to suggest that the fires were as a result of arson.

I have also been informed that the level of crime in the area is considered quite low. In 1994 nine crimes were reported to the Garda. In 1995, to date, this figure has decreased to two.

I have been assured by the Garda authorities that the area receives and will continue to receive regular and ongoing attention from local community Garda covering the flat complex. This foot patrol is augmented by the services of two mobile uniform patrols and one plain clothes mobile unit. It is also serviced by regular patrols by members of the Garda dog unit.
