Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

321 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the appointments made to each body under his aegis since 1 January 1995. [13240/95]

There are three statutory agencies under the aegis of my Department, namely the Combat Poverty Agency, the Pensions Board and the National Social Services Board.

Two appointments have been made to the Combat Poverty Agency since 1 January 1995 as follows: Ms Anna Lee became a member of the board and chairperson with effect from 21 June 1995; Ms Deirdre Carroll was appointed as the Department's representative on the board on 31 January 1995.

There have been no new appointments to the Pensions Board since 1 January 1995. Mr. Michael Guilfoyle, the representative of the Minister for Finance, who resigned recently from the board, has not yet been replaced.

The following persons have been appointed to the National Social Services Board for a three year period from 1 September 1995:

Mr. Donal De Buitléir (Chairperson — appointed 13 June 1995)

Ms Paula Clancy

Mr. Mel Cousins

Ms Joan Duffy

Mr. Denis Foley

Ms Geralyn McGarry

Mr. Michael McLoone

Ms Rosarii Moylan

Mr. Tom Mulherin

Ms Mary Murphy

Mr. Martin Naughton

Ms Mary O'Connell

Mr. Pádraig Rehill

Ms Monica Weir

Ms Kate Kelly

Responsibility for two bodies with which the National Social Services Board is associated has also transferred on a temporary basis to this Department. These bodies are the National Council for the Elderly and the National Validation Body for Social Work Qualifications and Training. Both bodies continue to report to the Minister for Health. It is proposed to have alternative administrative arrangements in place by the end of the year. There have been no new appointments to the National Council for the Elderly since 1 January 1995.
The National Validation Body for Social Work Qualifications and Training was technically established in 1994, the Chair was appointed at the end of 1994 and nominations for representations on the Body were requested by 18 November 1994. A number of organisations nominated their representatives by the end of 1994 but there were a small number of additions in 1995.
