Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Electricity Interconnectors.

Bertie Ahern

Ceist:

403 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the current discussions, if any, there are with a view to establishing electricity interconnectors with British or other overseas utilities. [13285/95]

Following the restoration of the electricity interconnector at Louth/Armagh, ESB and the Northern Ireland Electricity propose to examine the joint development of transmission networks and the overall potential for interconnection between the two electricity grids. A joint study is currently in progress and is expected to be concluded later this year.

There are no other discussions ongoing with a view to establishing an electricity interconnection with other overseas utilities.
