103 Mr. S. Kenny asked the Minister for Health if he will sanction an additional position to enable elective epilepsy waiting lists to be dealt with in view of the fact that there is only one surgeon performing epilepsy operations in the State. [13175/95]
Limerick East): There are currently no proposals for the filling of the additional consultant post referred to by the Deputy.
Under current employment control procedures for the health service each agency is obliged to submit on a regular basis prioritised applications for the filling on a permanent basis of both new and replacement consultant posts and new non-consultant posts. My Department's examination of the proposals has regard to a number of issues, in particular, service criteria, the availability of financial resources and current policy in relation to recruitment to the health service.
