Byrne asked the Minister for Justice the steps, if any, she has taken to update the censorship of publications legislation in view of the Censorship Appeals Board's recent decision to rescind the banning order on Playboy magazine; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I have no proposals at present to update the Censorship of Publications Act, 1946. With regard to the recent decision of the Appeal Board in relation to Playboy magazine, I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that both the Censorship of Publications Board and the appeals board are independent in the exercise of their functions and it would not be proper for me, as Minister for Justice, to comment on any particular decision.
