Ceist:25 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Justice the number of Garda Síochána in the Force as at 1 January 1995, and to date in 1995. [13765/95]

The strength of the Garda Síochána on 1 January 1995 was 10,837 with 436 recruits in phases one, two and three of training. The present strength of the Force is 10,785 with 268 recruits in phases one, two and three of training.
There is always a slight variation in numbers from one period to the next due to resignations, retirements, etc., and a slight time lag in replacements coming on stream following completion of training.
