Vol. 457 No. 4

Written Answers. - New Maternity Centre.

Máirín Quill

Ceist:

32 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Health the steps, if any, he proposes to authorise in respect of the proposed new maternity centre at Cork University Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15504/95]

Limerick East): For some time, the Department has had ongoing consultations with the agencies in Cork with regard to the development of maternity services. A number of different views were put forward as to how the services should be developed. Consequently, earlier this year, I requested that these agencies enter into round table consultations to agree on a set of proposals to resolve their differences.

I understand that these consultations have recently been completed and a consensus has now been reached between the agencies concerned with regard to the amalgamation of maternity services on the Cork University Hospital.
I anticipate that there will be little delay in the Southern Health Board bringing forward a set of proposals in this regard for my detailed examination.
