Vol. 457 No. 8

Written Answers. - In-Service Education.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

62 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the total expenditure for primary level in-service education from September 1994, to the end of August 1995. [16098/95]

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

125 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education the expenditure on primary and post-primary in-service education from September 1994 to the end of August 1995. [16104/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 62 and 125 together.

Payments in respect of in-service education for both primary and post primary in the period in question amounted to £4.45 million. There are, in addition, commitments to expenditure in respect of which claims for payment have not yet been received. It is not possible to identify separately the total payments relating to the primary and post primary sectors.

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 107 on 14 March last, the allocation for in-service training is programme driven in accordance with the objectives agreed with the European Commission under the Human Resources Operational Programme. In line with this, a range of the activities and programmes supported is cross sectoral. Funding for these activities is, accordingly, not allocated on a sectoral basis.
