Vol. 458 No. 3

Written Answers. - Free School Books.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

79 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for free school books to be granted to a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [16974/95]

Provision exists for a scheme of grants payable to second-level schools towards the cost of school books for necessitous pupils.

The grant scheme is administered by the principal teachers of the schools which participate in the scheme. Subject to the overall amount of money made available for the scheme, principal teachers have complete discretion in the selection of the most needy pupils to be assisted and in the degree of assistance to be given to each one.

I would advise that an application for assistance under the scheme should be addressed to the principal teacher of the school which the student in question is attending.
