Vol. 458 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

83 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Education if he will have arrangements made to provide extra transport for the pupils from an area (details supplied) in County Limerick in view of the fact that there is concern and dissatisfaction on the part of parents and pupils with the present transport arrangements for the second level pupils; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17064/95]

The situation in this case is that there are four buses covering five routes. Consequently, a double-tripping arrangement is in operation, whereby one route has a less advantageous timetable to the others, this is a feature of the school transport scheme as operated throughout the country.

Previously, the double trip affected pupils from only one particular area. In order to distribute the burden fairly, however, it was decided that the double-trip arrangement would be shared by the pupils on all five routes. This arrangement was put into operation in September 1995.
