Vol. 459 No. 4

Written Answers. - Land Registry Matters.

Éamon Ó Cuív

Ceist:

74 Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason information requested from his Department on 29 March 1995, by a solicitor, on foot of a query from the Land Registry, was not supplied; whether he finds it acceptable that, as a consequence, an application for registration of land (details supplied) in County Galway was abandoned by the Land Registry on 26 October 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18287/95]

In May 1993 some of the staff from land services division of my Department were seconded on a temporary basis to arable aid division in order to ensure efficient processing of claims and payments of grants under the arable aid scheme. This resulted in a backlog of work in land services division.

As already indicated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 159 of 8 November I have succeeded in obtaining extra staff to deal with arable aid. As a result it has been possible to redeploy staff back to land services division. Every effort is being made to have the backlog cleared at the earliest possible date.

I understand that a reply has now issued from land services division to the solicitor in relation to the query raised.
