Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Driving Licence Requirements.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

25 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider introducing measures to reduce the hardship being placed on people over 70 years of age who want to retain a driving licence. [18036/95]

A person of 70 years of age or more is required to submit a medical report with the application to renew a driving licence and is restricted to either a one year or three year licence, depending on the period of fitness certified in that report. I do not propose to change this arrangement which is considered to be necessary and reasonable in the interests of the driver's own safety and that of other road users.
