Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Newport (Mayo) Flood Relief.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

59 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will grant funding towards the problem of flooding at Fahy, Newport, County Mayo. [18447/95]

Funding is provided by the Oireachtas to the Office of Public Works to carry out arterial drainage-flood relief works only on the basis of schemes statutorily prepared by them in accordance with the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, or the Arterial Drainage (Amendment) Act, 1995, as appropriate. The Office of Public Works do not have any discretionary funds, or indeed powers, at their disposal from which a grant might be made to deal with the problem of flooding at Fahy, Newport, County Mayo.

The flooding problem in the Fahy area will fall to be considered for inclusion under the new flood relief scheme priority programme, which is to be drawn up.
