Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Halting Sites Provision.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

96 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to review the legislation which allows city and county managers the power to override elected members in regard to the provision of halting sites in their areas; if he will agree that there is widespread concern regarding the undemocratic nature of this power; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18485/95]

The report of the Task Force on the Travelling Community made recommendations in relation to the operation of the various legislative provisions on the accommodation of travellers. I will be considering the recommendations in detail after the Government has considered the report of the working group of officials on the implementation of the Task Force report.
