Vol. 459 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Maintenance.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

98 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the number of schools that have applied for assistance for necessary school maintenance, repairs, refurbishment or extensions; the number of schools that are awaiting approval; the number of schools that have been refused; the schools involved; the date of application; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18679/95]

The information sought by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. Minor maintenance and repairs are the responsibility of the boards of management of individual schools and are funded from the annual capitation grant. In addition, about 2,000 schools receive grant aid each year for capital works.

If the Deputy requires information on a particular school, my Department would be happy to supply it.
