Vol. 459 No. 8

Written Answers. - Departmental Negotiations.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

120 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the purpose of her meeting on 20 September 1995 with the Irish Medical Organisation and prison doctors; the specific problems, if any, raised at this meeting; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19013/95]

I did not meet the Irish Medical Organisation on 20 September 1995. However, I understand that a private meeting was held on that date between the organisation and the prison doctors. The Deputy will appreciate that I have no information on matters which may have been raised during the course of this meeting.

Separate to this meeting, there are ongoing negotiations between my Department and the Irish Medical Organisation on the terms and conditions of a proposed common contract for prison doctors throughout the prison system. Every effort is being made to bring these negotiations to a speedy and satisfactory conclusion — a further meeting between my Department and the Irish Medical Organisation is due to take place shortly.
