Vol. 459 No. 8

Written Answers. - Sexual Abuse Allegations.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

45 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Justice the status of the Garda investigations into allegations of sexual abuse against a hospital consultant in Drogheda, County Louth; the number of cases that have been reported to date; the charges, if any, that have been brought against the consultant; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18935/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that 18 complaints have been made to the Garda concerning the person in question. I am further informed that the Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that there should not be prosecutions in relation to two of the complaints and that his directions are awaited in relation to seven other complaints which have been submitted to him. Files are being prepared by the Garda in relation to the remaining nine complaints and these will be submitted in due course. The person in question has not been charged with any offences relating to the above complaints.
