Vol. 459 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dublin Community Policing.

Mary Flaherty

Ceist:

54 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Justice if she will ensure that funds are made available from her Department for the proposed new community policing programme in the Finglas South area, Dublin 11. [17631/95]

I understand from the Garda authorities that a number of meetings have taken place, over recent weeks, principally with local public and community representatives, with a view to tackling the anti-social activities of a minority of the youth of the area.

Obviously, these discussions are at a very early stage, and those involved have yet to agree a coherent strategy to tackle the problems of the area. However, I welcome any such positive initiative by communities and I assure the Deputy not only of my support, but also the support of the Garda for their efforts.
