Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Use of Irish Language.

Micheál Martin

Ceist:

315 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she has satisfied herself that the requirements of the Regional Technical Colleges Act, 1992, regarding presentation, promotion and use of the Irish language are being discharged. [19206/95]

Section 7 (5) of the Regional Technical Colleges Act, 1992, states:

In performing its functions, a governing body shall have due regard to the preservation, promotion and use of the Irish language and to the preservation and development of the national culture.

The form of the annual report of the regional technical colleges which I have approved includes a section in relation to the Irish language. I will be keeping this issue under review in the light of the information supplied by the colleges in their annual reports.
