355 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if a permanent post of caretaker will be sanctioned for a special school (details supplied) in Dublin 1 for travelling children in view of the fact that the current caretaker who is on a FÁS scheme has given first class service for the past five years. [1109/96]
The school to which the Deputy refers is already included in the scheme of additional capitation grants to primary schools for caretaking and clerical services. Currently this is the only scheme under which caretaking services can be extended in the primary sector. Under the scheme a school authority has discretion to apply the funding in a manner which it deems will best meet it needs.
