503 Mr. Gallagher (Donegal South-West) asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total number of overseas jobs created from January to November 1995; the number of overseas jobs created in County Donegal; the steps, if any, which are being taken to improve the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 521 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of new jobs created by the IDA and Forbairt in 1995 in County Donegal. [1087/96]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 503 and 521 together.
The total number of new jobs created by IDA Ireland and Forbairt in County Donegal in 1995 was 253 and 154 respectively, while the total number of overseas jobs created in the same period was 11,500.
The Deputies will be aware that the location of projects and the provision of employment in particular areas of the country is a matter for the day to day administration of the industrial development agencies, and that the decision as to where an enterprise eventually locates is ultimately a matter for the enterprise itself. However, I can assure them that IDA Ireland and Forbairt will continue to promote County Donegal in every way possible as a location suitable for industrial development.
