Vol. 460 No. 3

Written Answers. - Forestry Grant.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

539 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive a forestry grant. [19283/96]

When an application for an afforestation grant is received, my Department must be satisfied that the proposal will not have an adverse effect on the environment. Where a proposal is identified as being environmentally sensitive, my Department is required to consult with other competent bodies before making any decision on grant approval.

This particular case was identified as being sensitive from a fisheries, landscape and heritage point of view. My Department has consulted with the following bodies regarding the matter: North Western Regional Fisheries Board, Mayo County Council and the Office of Public Works. Responses are awaited and once received a decision on the grant application will be made without delay.
