Ceist:211 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice the exact number of arrests and subsequent summonses for drink driving in the month of December 1995, and in the month of January 1996 to date. [1890/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of arrests for drink driving related offences in the month of December, 1995 was 480 persons. The figure for the month of January, 1996 to date is not yet available.
It is not yet possible to give the total number of summonses issued since the necessary procedures relating thereto are still in the process of being finalised.
