55 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the current position regarding the competitive scheme proposed to secure an electricity generating plant of up to 30 megawatts using biomass or waste as fuel; the plans, if any, he has for the further development of renewable energy sources; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The competitive scheme to secure an electricity generating plant of up to 30 megawatts using biomass or waste as a fuel was launched on 21 December 1995.

The review of strategy in relation to renewable energy resources is nearing completion and I expect to be in a position to announce my proposals soon.
