The average age of persons committed on conviction in 1992 was approximately 28 years, 3 months.
The information sought by the Deputy regarding a breakdown by county and postal district in Dublin of offenders committed on conviction is not available. It would require the manual examination of up to 6,000 files and the collation of the information. Such use of staff time could not be justified at this time.
Records are not kept in such a way as to allow the collation of the information sought by the Deputy in relation to the socio-economic grouping of persons committed on conviction in any year.
More detailed breakdown of the above information is available in the Annual Report on Prisons and Places of Detention, 1992. The annual report for 1993 should be available shortly.
