Vol. 462 No. 4

Written Answers. - St. Kevin's School, Dublin.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

72 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the pending closure of St. Kevin's girls national school, Grantham Street, Dublin 8, a local infants and girls school for a disadvantaged inner city area; the proposals, if any, she has to ensure that adequate alternative accommodation is provided; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4816/96]

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

73 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Education the alternative school that will be available for children who attend St. Kevin's girls national school, Grantham Street, Dublin 8. [4724/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 72 and 73 together.

The position is that my Department has been in communication with the chairperson of the board of management of St. Kevin's national school, Grantham Street, regarding the closure of the school. There are 19 pupils in the school at present, both girls and boys, of which around ten are from the parish.

In the event of the closure of the school, there are a number of primary schools within a reasonable distance where the pupils can be accommodated, such as: St. Enda's, Whitefriar Street; St. Clare's, Harold's Cross; St. Louis's, Rathmines; Presentation Convent, Warrenmount.

I am satisfied that these schools have the capacity to accommodate the pupils concerned.
