Ceist:

81 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education the further rechecks, if any, under way in any subject on the 1995 leaving certificate results; if so, if she will give details of these rechecks; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4763/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 79 and 81 together.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to a case where following the normal appeals process my office received representations concerning the marking of the leaving certificate higher level English papers for 1995 from a school in the north east. The chief inspector and the inspector who acted as chief examiner for this subject in the 1995 examinations visited the school on 22 February 1996. The chief examiner had a discussion with the principal and teachers of English and the chief inspector joined him for a discussion with representatives of parents.

Following the meeting the chief inspector ordered a further recheck of the 18 scripts involved. This was conducted by the chief examiner and the chief advising examiner. This process is now complete and today the chief examiner and the chief advising examiner are visiting the school to inform it of the result of the recheck. When this has been done and I have a report I will be in a position to inform the Deputy of the result of the recheck and of the name of the school involved.

Question No. 80 also put down by the Deputy is related and I would draw his attention to my reply to that question.
